AVSI

AVSI is an Italian non-profit organization working in the field of international cooperation through projects of development but also of humanitarian assistance. Today, AVSI works in 32 countries around the globe, it is supported by 34 founding members and has more than 700 partners worldwide.

AVSI’s projects are particularly focused on educating individuals to discover themselves and each other as a fundamental/added value. Therefore, each project is built/perceived as an instrument promoting awareness in this sense; therefore, communication and sharing play a fundamental role thanks to the positive impact they can have on the long term and in a broad sense.

In 1984, AVSI began its work in Uganda and over the years the organization implemented projects in relation to health - such as nutrition, WASH, HIV/AIDS treatment and disabilities - but also in many other fields such as education, minors’ protection, economic responsibility and sustainability.

Nowadays AVSI’s been concentrating its activities in the northern region of Uganda - particularly in the sub-region of Acholi - where it has been implementing a project entitled: “Maximizing impact against HIV/AIDS, TB, and Malaria in 8 District of the Acholi Sub-region of Northern Uganda”. The eight districts of concern are Gulu, Amuru, Nwoya, Omoro, Kitgum, Pader, Lamwo and Agago;  the project is financed by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) and is part of a series of initiatives promoted by the Global Fund.

AICS

The Italian Agency for Development Cooperation - as it is today - was founded in 2014 and started to operate in 2016 with the aim of aligning Italy with its European and global partners in the endeavour of development. Overall, the Agency acts on three main key-themes: a more equal distribution of wealth, guaranteed access to quality healthcare and education, and environmental sustainability.

In 2015, Italy signed The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and so far, through AICS and other agencies, it’s been working in line with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

With particular reference to the third SDG (Health and Well-being), the Agency adopted a universalistic approach founded on the need for self-determination and the involvement of local communities. Among the various commitments, the fight against HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and malaria has always occupied a preferential seat and has always been protracted in partnership with the Global Fund.
